Providence is calling a Surgery Tech V (Full-Time/Variable Shift) to Providence St Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, CA.

We are seeking a Surgery Tech V who will perform a variety of technical duties to scrub in surgery. Prepare operating rooms for surgery, using appropriate techniques. Provide technical services and assists in operating room as assigned and directed. Serve as a resource along with the RN Specialty Coordinator for at least one surgical specialty.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Implement and maintain established department, unit, and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives as well as quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control policies
Assist surgeons during operations limited to the surgical technologist scope of practice
Assist in maintaining correct count of instruments, sutures and sponges. Report incorrect counts immediately to the surgeon and circulator
Assist with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies
Enhance personal growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings, and workshops
Orient and train assigned personnel. Act in a preceptor role
Correspond with specialty coordinator to order necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies
Prepare rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment. Assist the surgical team during operative procedures
Assist in cleaning and preparing rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning
Drape patients for surgical procedures
Maintain a surgical "neutral zone" for passing of surgical sharps
Maintain aseptic techniques; actively monitor situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique. Report all breaks in aseptic technique immediately to the surgeon and RN circulator. Wear eye protection at all times
Provide comfort and support for patients by demonstrating sensitivity to patient's care and privacy
Identify and care for specimens
Assure all surgeon/procedure specific needs are planned ahead and made readily available. Update physician preference cards as needed
Participate in unit/department specific quality improvement activities
Cover on call assignments, arriving at Medical Center within 30 minutes of notification
Attend meetings as required
Required qualifications for this position include:
Education to meet certification, license or registration requirement
National Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) issued by the Liaison Council on certification for the surgical technologist. Required for anyone hired after 1995
BLS for Healthcare Providers sponsored by the American Heart Association. NOTE: If employee/applicant has certification by the American Red Cross, this will be accepted until expiration. At that time, renewal must be sponsored by the American Heart Association. Required for anyone hired after 1995
5 years scrub experience
Must be skilled in at least two advanced specialties (e.g., cardiovascular, orthopedics, etc.)
Has advanced skills as Surgical Tech w/ability to scrub proficiently on complicated surgical procedures
