We are seeking a Specimen Processor II who will be responsible for supervising, performing, and trouble shooting a variety of processing functions to include, but not limited to removal of specimens and requisitions from their bags, inventory of specimens, racking of specimens, order entry, using Laboratory and Hospital information systems, labeling primary specimens and aliquots, specimen delivery to departments. Responsible for follow up on identified QA issues and specimen problems. Responsible for the timely delivery of specimens to the technical departments by triaging personnel and specimens. Assists in problem solving strategies and supports the efforts of the Client Service Department.
In this position you will:
Perform all required procedures and demonstrates proper technique as outlined in the department procedure manual
Implement and maintain established department, unit and hospital policies, procedures and objectives as well as improving organization performance program, patient/customer safety, environmental and infection control policies
Maintain excellent relations with patients, medical staff, other departments, laboratory staff, clients and other customers as well as other hospitals that use services
Prioritize all duties and adhere to established turn-around-times for routine, STAT, timed, and batched procedures for all duties assigned
Display positive, professional, and service-oriented demeanor when communicating with patients, medical staff, and other departments, as well as other customers utilizing our services
Supervise, triage and is responsible for specimen inventory, centrifugation, aliquoting, and racking and delivery to testing department. Maintains specimen integrity through proper labeling, handling and storage of specimens
Investigate and resolve pre and post analytical problems as identified on the Specimen Action or Quality Assurance forms. Perform complex problem investigation and resolution
Research esoteric test orders and order enter appropriately
Assist management in maintaining appropriate logs and documentation required by the department
Print pending list and can locate missing tubes as requested by technical department
Must be familiar with courier routes and able to redirect Couriers as needed and may provide courier service if needed
In the absence of a supervisor, assures that all areas are adequately covered and orchestrates the workflow for greatest efficiency
Assist in training and orientation of new staff. Inform staff of new information and changes. Works with Supervisor to develop department’s technical procedures and competency tools
Participate in educational programs and in-service meetings
Required qualifications for this position includes:
One (1) year of Specimen processing experience
Familiar with medical terminology
Must have a working knowledge of tube types and specimen requirements
Has an excellent working knowledge of PSJMC Laboratory and Hospital Information Systems
