Providence Health & Services Service Engineer 2 – Linux Server Engineering in Burbank, California
Providence is calling a Service Engineer 2 – Linux Server Engineering to one of our locations in Washington, Oregon, California, Alaska, or Texas.
We are seeking a Service Engineer 2 who will have scope across a business domain that falls within Administrative Technologies, like: Human Resources, Supply Chain, Finance, Legal, or other non-clinical shared services. The scope is both broad working across a whole business unit and deep, in terms of technical, process and continuous improvement required to run and maintain an enterprise wide IS service. This role is both enterprise in nature and startup in mindset because we are creating and building this IS division from the ground floor. This role will work in a fast pace environment, will have constant demands for better services, and will require strong problem resolution, decision making, communication and partnering skills. This role requires someone to be both a key contributor and teacher as we bring in a cutting edge service management mindset and skillset to the organization. It requires an engineer that can deal with high degrees of ambiguity and drive clear service improvement plans, while collaborating with the business, and peer IS teams of Program Managers, Software Engineers and Service Engineers.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Understands the caregiver, business, and technical requirements. Uses expertise to contribute to components of a service architecture, and operability and caregiver scenarios that meet compliance standards and KPIs, such as quality, cost, and caregiver expectation.
Applies the team’s standards and best practices to his or her own work to design high-performance, manageable services.
Analyzes the current service delivery system and uses his or her judgment to identify improvements that enable the team to create a system that supports service delivery and meets KPIs.
Performs troubleshooting and engineers solutions for service issues to restore service with minimal disruption to the caregiver and business.
Owns the problem, solving it once and for all. Extrapolates from past experiences and delivers innovations.
Actively takes part in disaster recovery drills. Participates as needed in incident response management during non-working hours.
Uses expertise to identify relevant data, and provides analysis on actual versus projected capacity requirements, based on service KPIs, evolving caregiver usage scenarios, and new feature releases to enable the team to create a viable cost model. Maximizes the effectiveness of financial resources.
Uses expertise to identify process or technology solutions that identify and resolve platform, system, deployment and environmental issues prior to solution release, and that ensure an on-time release with predictable high quality.
Participates in triaging and uses problem management tools (such as root cause analysis, trend analysis, and postmortems). Contributes to and implements a solution.
Ensures that production solutions are reliable, resilient, secure and effective and continuously monitored.
Collects metrics (such as service availability data, performance measures, system health, and long-term trends) to support service intelligence analysis.
Adheres to budget requirements and tracks and reports operational cost data to the business.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree or Master's degree in one of the following disciplines: Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or Engineering.
2 years IT technical experience supporting RedHat Linux in a large enterprise environment.
