Providence is calling for a Senior Injury Prevention and Ergonomic Specialist PSJH to our location in Burbank, CA.
We are seeking a Senior Injury Prevention and Ergonomic Specialist PSJH to be manage programs for injury reduction, prevention and promotion of health at a regional level. The position will provide project management to new and existing programs in cooperation with the Manager of Injury Prevention for services of injury prevention including ergonomics, safe patient handling and injury services. The schedules managed by the Injury Prevention Coordinators are to provide efficient and cost effective inter and intra facility coverage for ergonomics, safe patient handling and injury reduction services. In addition, this role will support safety compliance with yearly and ongoing staff education needs while promoting integration of services within a culture of safety, wellness and injury prevention.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Manager of Injury Prevention & Ergonomics to address managers, directors, and administrators regarding awareness of workers' compensation trends and the need for engineering, administrative and work practice controls. Provides recommendations for provision of personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to, safe patient handling and ergonomic equipment. Develops, implements and manages programs for injury prevention, safe patient handling, and ergonomics and develops these programs where they are not present or need improvement under the guidance of the Manager of Injury Prevention & Ergonomics.
Responsible for interdisciplinary collaboration towards a Culture of Safety, Health and Prevention and strives to establish best practices in these areas through successful outcome measures of improved employee and patient safety.
Provide ergonomic education, assessments, and injury prevention strategies to local ministries / departments under the guidance of the Manager of Injury Prevention & Ergonomics.
Use research and evidence based practice to establish guidelines in decision making for solutions in risk reduction and prevention of musculoskeletal injuries.
Mentor, support and train Specialists and Coordinators to ensure appropriate skill sets for both functions and promote professional development.
Responsible for prioritization of work with departments with highest injury rates and determines root cause and establishment of an action plan for lowering injury rates and severity.
Identify ideas for improving existing programs and practices. Responsible for the development and implementation of new programs for injury reduction under the guidance of the Manager of Injury prevention. Develops the business case through return on investment matrix to demonstrate the investment optimization for senior management presentations.
Responsible for maintaining knowledgeable and adhering to current local, regional, state, and national standards and regulations that promote safety and injury prevention for patients and caregivers.
In collaboration with IP&E manager, Caregiver Health, and local leadership, facilitates the integration of caregiver safety with ministry key initiatives (ex: Caring Reliably, fall prevention, pressure ulcer injury prevention, committees).
Organize, lead, and attend the safe patient handling committee / EOC meetings on a monthly basis, or as is reasonable, as well as the facility incident and accident meetings or other appropriate committees.
Participate in the investigation process of employee injuries and root cause analysis.
Demonstrate ability to critically analyze data. Utilization of appropriate data that conveys a compelling story of key loss history. Executes senior level presentations to depict ministries loss experience and facilitates consensus towards an investment in future state recommendations. Identify trends and compile quarterly and year-end work injury statistics. Provides the Manager of Injury Prevention & Ergonomics with data for quarterly and yearly reports.
Oversee and monitor Ergonomic and Safe Patient Handling education to ensure regulatory compliance. Track and trend education compliance data. Communicate status of compliance on a routine basis to local leadership and stakeholders (e.g. Human Resources, Education Departments, etc.). Coordinates and delivers yearly training for safe patient handling and ergonomics; collaborates with the Manager of Injury Prevention & Ergonomics on yearly education content.
Oversee and monitor and participate actively rounds on the units to influence behavior for caregiver safety, perform Facility Risk Assessments, audit safe patient handling compliance, identify ergonomic concerns, identify opportunities for process improvement, and work with local leadership to implement changes. Establishes strong collaboration with leaders to facilitate compliance on rounding.
May be required to travel to and work at different local, regional and national facilities as need arises. Regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.
Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare related field (RN, OT, PT, ATC, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, Kinesiology) or equivalent education/experience.
6 years healthcare experience with degree in physical or occupational therapy, nursing, exercise science/physiology, kinesiology or related field in acute care setting.
6 years experience in ergonomics or human factors in a healthcare setting.
Active state license and/or certification as appropriate (i.e. PT, OT, RN)
Certification in ergonomics or safe patient handling within 2 years of hire.
Master's Degree in Healthcare related field (RN, OT, PT, ATC, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, Kinesiology) or equivalent education/experience.
Bachelor's Degree in Ergonomics or Human Factors
Project Management related training (i.e. Lean, Continuous Improvement).
2 years Project Management experience.
Basic Life Support.
