Providence Regional Director, Foundation Messaging in Burbank, California
Under the direction of the Southern California Executive Director of Donor Engagement, the Regional Director of Foundation Messaging is responsible for developing the content strategy for all donor communications in Southern California and ensures that all communications instruments are technically excellent, consistent, persuasive, and sophisticated, deepening the foundations' relationships with their donors and inspiring philanthropic support. The regional director and his/her team also manage all internal staff communications and media relations for Philanthropy in Southern California.
The Regional Director, Foundation Messaging will be responsible for the following accountabilities:
Lead and develop a team of two high-performing managers in foundation messaging that deliver compelling fundraising materials that engage donors and inspire philanthropic support.
Manage project tracking and approval processes for all foundation messaging work, ensuring that all work is delivered efficiently and by deadline.
In collaboration with the regional executive director, donor engagement, develop and manage the budget for foundation messaging. Ensure budget compliance and monitor budgets against articulated goals and objectives throughout the year.
Hire and manage a team of freelance proposal writers.
Promote collaboration, sharing of information and best practices related to donor and foundation communications among ministries.
Develop and execute a foundation messaging strategy that is consistent with the Providence brand, reflects the local identity of each foundation and is engaging, timely, and effective.
Create all donor-facing communications for all foundations in Southern California including but not limited to: major gift proposals, case statements, campaign materials, presentations, donor stewardship materials, press releases/media alerts, fact sheets, scripts for special events/executive speeches/video content, foundation website content, philanthropy-related social media posts and advertising copy.
Work with relevant leadership staff to develop internal networks at each hospital to 1) identify appropriate stories that communicate and promote the impact of philanthropy and 2) quickly obtain all necessary technical writing for communications materials.
Create and execute a strategic marketing plan for each foundation to promote their philanthropic work in their local community.
Manage all media relations for regional philanthropy and local foundations, to steward donors and generate awareness for major gift announcements, campaigns, capital projects and special events.
Generate all internal communications, including staff/department announcements, newsletters, and content for the regional philanthropy Sharepoint/MS Teams site(s).
In collaboration with regional leadership, provide strategic support for issues management and crisis communications as it relates to Southern California philanthropy.
Additional accountabilities include:

Demonstrating experience working within time-intensive, results-oriented environment.
Demonstrating leadership and motivational skills to develop staff and volunteers.
Ability to gracefully address dynamic priorities with sound judgment.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with outside vendors, Foundation staff and hospital staff.
Maintaining excellent people skills.
Required experience/education for this position include:
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (i.e., journalism, English, communications, media studies, etc.)
10 years of progressively responsible professional writing experience, preferably in journalism.
8 years of leadership experience, preferably in a larger institution.
Extensive experience in publication development, public relations, marketing and communications, including all phases of publication or marketing materials production.
Experience in health care, higher education or other large, complex organizations is strongly preferred, as is a high comfort level writing about medical and scientific subjects for a donor audience
Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license and willing to travel between Providence foundations throughout Southern California.
Excellent communication and relational skills.
Preferred experience/education for this position include:
- Master’s Degree in Journalism, Marketing or a related field.
