Providence is calling a Patient Services Technician ICU (On Call/Night Shift) to Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, CA.

We are seeking a Patient Services Technician ICU who will perform delegated routine and predictable patient care tasks/duties and works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). These duties may include, but are not limited to ECGs, vital signs, monitoring, basic patient care and transportation. Responds appropriately to patients and families with knowledge of age-specific needs based on the Intensive Care Unit scope of service.

In this position you will:

  • Perform basic nursing procedures such as: heat and cold treatments, simple dressings, and restraints as directed by RN; perineal care, post mortem care; collection of specimens. May obtain and document patient intake and output, vital signs including temperature

  • Provide appropriate, direct patient care in assigned area(s) including positioning, and nourishment and transportation assistance, and assisting in sterile procedure setup

  • Facilitate patient flow by assisting with the transportation and/or escorting of patients

  • Communicate effectively with the RN and other team members regarding equipment issues as well as patient, family and physician issues or concerns

  • Communicate in a compassionate and professional manner with all staff, patients, families and visitors

  • Report changes in patient condition in a timely and consistent manner to RN and professional associates

  • Transport lab specimens and blood products

  • Electronically documents information in an accurate and timely manner

  • Competent in the input and retrieval of this information within the patient’s medical record

  • Push/pull and changing patient locations in the electronic medical record

  • Printing out census and patient accommodations, verifying accuracy, make changes when needed in the electronic medical record.

  • Assist with lifesaving interventions as directed by a registered nurse

  • Perform EKG’s

  • Assist caregivers with post-mortem care

  • Participate in educational programs and in-service meetings

  • Collaborate with the case management team to request patient documents from other facilities

  • Assist in scheduling outpatient appointments, as needed

  • Maintain and operates multiple telecommunications systems

  • Understand and is able to coordinate the process for downtime slips

  • Facilitate inter-department communication regarding transfers, admits and discharges.

  • Accurately maintains department records, reports, and files per procedure

  • Assist with maintenance of patient databases and unit specific audits

  • Assist with collection of data for quality measures as appropriate and necessary

  • Be responsible for measuring and recording unit refrigerator temperatures on a daily basis per hospital policy

  • Assist in orientating other hospital employees and new hires to respective unit.

  • Be responsible for maintaining, ordering and stocking unit supplies in an efficient and cost effective manner

  • Possibly arrange environmental maintenance and repairs as needed and follow up on work orders not complete

  • Perform Quality Control check on POS devices.

  • Stock, replenish and clean isolation carts daily with supplies from an approved checklist by Infection, Blood and Pharmacy / committee

  • Assess integrity of specialized machines and communicates with clinical engineering to ensure proper maintenance checks

  • Prepare rooms for admissions and procedures, with required equipment and supplies stocked to appropriate levels

  • Utilize standard checklist for room readiness and completes checklist for patient chart

  • Clean designated unit specific equipment according to Infection Control standards

  • Round in patient rooms, introducing self at the start of each shift

  • Actively participates in hourly rounding, uses AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation and Thank You) at every encounter with patient and family.

  • Respond to bed alarms and staff the call light system, and addresses patient every time by name

  • Perform other related duties as required to assist with the smooth operation of the assigned Nursing Unit

  • Actively supports and incorporates the mission and core values into daily practice

  • Report to work as scheduled and on time

  • Adhere to timely rest and meal breaks

  • Consistently demonstrates and incorporates principles of safety and infection control into daily practice as outlined in the Environment of Care, Infection Control, and Exposure Control manuals

  • Use protective equipment and takes appropriate precautions whenever there is potential for contact with blood, body fluids, and/or chemicals

  • Maintain knowledge of work-appropriate aspects of environment of care program

  • Participate in fire and disaster drills

  • Complete mandatory requirements for safety, security, confidentiality and unit/hospital required competencies

  • Complete initial and annual Competency Plan for assigned job and department

  • Demonstrate personal and interpersonal qualities that support the Values and Mission of Providence Health & Services

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Completion of Medical Terminology HealthStream course within 90 days of hire

  • Current CPR Certification (BLS Healthcare Provider)

  • One (1) year of recent experience as a Nurse Assistant in a comparable size facility, preferably within the same or similar specialty

  • Basic computer skills

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Completed training as a Certified Nursing Assistant

  • Customer Service Training

  • Proficiency in Medical Terminology
