Providence Health & Services Operations Director, SoCal Oncology and Research Institutes in Burbank, California



The Operations Director, SoCal Oncology and Research Institutes is accountable for executing the strategic plan of the SoCal Oncology and Research Institute(s) for Providence St. Joseph Southern California. In addition, specific focus areas will include:

  • Implementation of standardized evidence-based clinical practice guidelines

  • Implementation of new care delivery models and new programs as identified and prioritized by Institute leadership

  • Quality monitoring and improvement for the Institute Operating Commitments and Executive Metrics

  • Growth in market share

  • Progression of physician alignment


The Operations Director, SoCal Oncology and Research Institutes will be responsible for the following accountabilities:

  • Leadership:

  • Implements approved regional strategies that ensure quality outcomes in alignment with Operating Commitments and Executive Metrics and supports inter-disciplinary care teams, physicians, and customers.

  • Maintains a close, collaborative and consulting relationship with all disciplines who provide and/or supports patients receiving care (i.e. nursing, pharmacy, pastoral care, emergency room providers, surgery, lab, rehabilitation, volunteer administrative services).

  • Develops measurements to track and report processes, quality initiatives, and outcomes. Ability to serve as an advocate for continuous quality improvement and to lead and direct teams to accelerate change toward ever-improving quality and operational performance.

  • Implement strategies and tactics necessary to achieve the vision for PSJH SoCal Oncology and Research Institutes Work collaboratively with Leadership to create a systematic, coordinated approach to Oncology and Research Services across the region, including standardized evidence-based oncology and research practice guidelines integration.

  • Develop a system for access to care in conjunction with the local and regional leaders

  • Growth:

  • Achieve growth targets in the market as defined in the regional plan

  • Capitalize on marketing opportunities.Evaluation and monitor of marketing effectiveness

  • Develop outreach and educational programs in conjunction with local high schools, community agencies, and other interested community stakeholders.

  • Initiate program and service development, evaluation, and restructuring to meet changing market needs.

  • Actively interact with urban hospitals and communities, physicians (internal and external) to facilitate increased access to Services

  • Engages physicians in growth and development of efficient, effective and value added services within a variety of care environments.

  • Participates in development of strategic short and long range plans.

  • Determines referral source targets, identifies needs of the referral sources and their patients and facilitates referral source education and relationship building.

  • Fiscal:

  • Participates in developing service line budget and manages allocated resources efficiently for program, project and services assigned.

  • Ensure resources are allocated to provide optimal outcomes and services

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies governing care, and rules, policy, and laws of accrediting agencies

  • Implement operational improvements in the applicable departments across the region

  • Achieve financial savings through evidence-based care for optimal patient outcomes



Required education/experience for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Health Science discipline.

  • 5 years of management related experience.

  • Experience with practicing in acute, outpatient or other medical care environment.

  • Experience with working in health care systems.

  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills (political Savvy) and flexibility in working with administrators, physicians and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including effective listening and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrates self-motivation with demonstrated ability to take initiative, prioritize work, manage time and respond effectively to rapidly changing environment.

  • Ability to use cognitive thinking skills, leads inter-disciplinary groups, and prioritizes and organize work in an accurately and timely manner.

  • Ability to facilitate meetings and develop teams, negotiate difficult conversations and manage projects/plans according to timelines and expected results.

  • Successful history of working with physicians is required.

  • Ability to develop, direct, coach, and motivate staff to provide quality service with effective/outstanding outcomes.

  • Demonstrates excellent analytical, organizational, negotiation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify, measure and achieve goals. Ability to negotiate a favorable outcome under challenging conditions.

  • Knowledge of health care trends, services and practice

  • Effective computer and analytical skills necessary to mine and interpret needed quantitative and qualitative data relevant to service line clinical outcome analysis and quality/performance improvement initiatives.

Preferred education/experience for this position include:

  • Master’s Degree in Health Care, or equivalent experience in service line administration.

  • 2 or more years in oncology service line operations and research experience with ACRP, CCRC, or SoCRA.

  • CCRP certification.
