Providence is calling a Therapist-Massage (Per Diem/Variable Shift) to Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, CA.

We are seeking a Therapist-Massage who will take a holistic approach to the maintenance of health and management of disease with focus on improving overall wellbeing of patients throughout the Integrative Medicine (IM) Clinic. He/she works closely with the IM Medical Director and Disney Family Cancer Center (DFCC) Director to ensure that evidence-based therapies are provided to our patients. The ideal candidate will also be able to provide massage services as a certified Massage Therapist. Provides safe, effective and appropriate Massage Therapy services to DFCC patients/clients with and without a cancer diagnosis, taking into account individual patient's special physical or age-related needs. Requires skills in patient/client evaluation and therapy. Performs health history on clients and updates prior to each session. Ability to talk with patients, explain procedure, establish rapport. Determine if patient is receptive and agrees to the procedure. Observes client reactions to services and modifies as necessary. Solicits feedback and responds accordingly. Documents all sessions performed according to established guidelines. It is expected that this individual will also participate in the clinical research sponsored by the IM Program.

In this position you will:

  • Plan and implement a comprehensive and individualized massage therapy plan.

  • Provide safe, therapeutic massage therapy services to clients.

  • Assess client's current physical status and develop goals and establishes interventions as appropriate to patient’s age, condition and learning needs.

  • Re-assess and change plan for intervention as warranted by the client’s condition and response to massage.

  • Select safe and effective massage techniques as appropriate for the client’s age and condition.

  • Communicate effectively in the professional environment with clients and visitors. Communicate frequently and effectively with others involved in client’s care as appropriate.

  • Provide and maintain accurate, thorough, legible and timely patient related documentation, handwritten and/or computerized, in accordance with Program policy and procedure.

  • Maintain positive working relationships with other staff.

  • Demonstrate professional behavior and pursues professional development.

  • Maintain and enhance personal expertise through appropriate professional educational experiences.

  • Maintain required hospital competency in environment of care, age-related care, and other required system trainings.

  • Keep informed of health care issues, changing department procedures, and other department information by attending staff/team meetings and/or reading staff meeting minutes, e-mails and newsletters.

  • Enhance personal professional growth by establishing individual goals, providing in-services to others, participating in community activities, and contributing to program development.

  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to adjust daily schedule to meet service area demands and complete workload.

  • Perform duties in compliance with departmental policies, procedures, timelines, and productivity standards.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Coursework/Training: School of Massage Therapy

  • Current Massage Certification

  • Oncology experience

  • Knowledge of currently accepted massage therapy theory and practice, and associated legal and ethical issues

  • Ability to adapt massage therapies to the unique needs of the clients.

  • Ability to establish therapeutic relationships with clients

  • Ability to read and write therapy notes, reports, clinical notes, and communications to and from other team members as necessary

  • Solid communication, organization, and problem solving skills

  • Ability to use computerized communication, billing and e-mail software programs

  • Ability to evaluate clinical matters and ask for help when needed

  • Ability to use e-mail software programs

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 3 years Clinical patient experience
