Providence Health & Services Health Information Imaging Specialist in Burbank, California
Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Health Information Imaging Specialist to our location in Burbank, CA.
We are seeking a Health Information Imaging Specialist who will be responsible for processing, scanning and indexing medical records for completeness and compliance in accordance with federal and state regulatory guidelines, Joint Commission standards, Medical Staff By-Laws/policies and procedures, and HIM department policies and procedures. This includes scanning all record types into the imaging system ensuring documents are properly indexed, boxed and stored according to retention and retrieval guidelines. The Scanning Specialist is a resource for continuum of care services to hospital staff, medical staff and patients. Responsibilities may include storefront coverage, patient calls, facilitating quick retrieval of specific requested documentation, and transcription support.
Identifying the correct physician responsible for completion of each portion of the record; reading handwritten record entries.
Identifying the correct physician for chart completion when the physician base spans multiple entities.
Processing large volumes of varied reports accurately.
Maintaining a complete knowledge base of record completion requirements.
Maintaining consistent productivity and quality of work in a challenging, fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Process, scan and index medical records for completeness and compliance.
Prepare, scan and index documents into the correct electronic medical record.
Receive and process all patient types of paper documents and images.
Correct, delete, move, recover batches that error out.
Process and document scanned medical records for applicable chart retention storage.
Identify canceled encounters and notify appropriate HIM staff.
Collaborate and coordinate with nursing and clinical units to provide professional level support and services for the retrieval and handling of medical records.
Research, respond to and log requests for patient health information, both routine and emergency.
Respond to business office requests for information and copies of specified documents.
Uses PC-based computer applications, scanners and alphanumeric processes in daily activities.
Confirm authorizations for release of information for requests as necessary. Transcription support.
Handle equipment problems for scanners and call in service requests for equipment.
Demonstrates competence using multiple department computer applications and successfully troubleshoots and resolves mechanical issues as they arise.
Print/fax or photocopy appropriate records from legacy system and/or Epic hard copy.
Ensure all computer system entries are completed accurately and timely.
Ensure proper technical set-up and maintenance of equipment utilized in the department for optimal image results.
Utilize critical thinking and problem solving skills and strategies to achieve team objectives, goals and assignments.
Assure, promote and maintain the confidentiality and integrity of all patient medical records.
Serve as a super user in relevant systems.
Closely adhere to set schedules and timecard procedures.
Identify, resolve and escalate major issues and service failures that impede success.
Maintain confidentiality of all patient demographic, medical, and financial information, ensuring proper handling and disposal of confidential documents and adherence to HIPAA.
Comply with all applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and requirements as well as PH&S policies and procedures in all aspects of job performance.

Required qualifications for this position include:
A track record in organizing and planning with demonstrated ability to effectively manage time and achieve results in a fast paced environment.
Valid driver’s license.
Completion of Driver’s Skill Test as required by ministry.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Coursework/Training in Medical terminology.
2 years experience in health information.
Experience in a hospital environment.
