Providence Health & Services Executive Director, Revenue Cycle Spend Management in Burbank, California



The Executive Director of Revenue Cycle Spend Management and Strategic Program Delivery is responsible for overseeing the finance support and project management functions of Providence's revenue cycle. The role drives spend management and Program Delivery initiatives for Revenue Cycle Leadership in the areas of:

  • Spend management: Responsibilities include oversight of productivity and benchmarking, costing, analytics, support for monthly close process, pro forma developments of business opportunities, long range planning for the region, capital planning, forecasting summarization for the region, operational budgeting summarization for the region as well as other reporting as requested by revenue cycle leadership.

  • Strategic Program Delivery: In partnership with Revenue Cycle leadership, this role will ensure successful implementation and management of the PC program portfolio. This includes driving the correct level of visibility of projects and programs, successful portfolio management discipline and driving the implementation/enhancement of common project accounting methodologies, and other Portfolio Management and PMO standards.

  • Continuous Improvement: Advance continuous improvement and business partnerships to drive the creation, execution and communication of value stream to Providence RCS stakeholders.

The Executive Director will collaborate with cross-disciplinary governance groups to deliver against revenue cycle strategic objectives and assist in the review and direction setting of program/project discovery, capital project planning, annual project plans and analyses, organizational and resource capacity planning/management. The Executive Director will oversee staff assigned to such functions and will coordinate these activities with revenue cycle leaders.

This role will work in a fast pace environment with constant demands from both internal and external leaders and will require strong problem resolution, decision making, communication and partnering skills. It requires a combination of business functional knowledge and initiative delivery. This role requires someone to be both a leader and mentor as we bring in cutting edge connected experience mindset and skill set to the organization. It requires a leader to flourish amidst a high degree of ambiguity.


  • Provide leadership to ensure various budgeting, reporting, and analytics needed for revenue cycle are done timely and efficiently to assure financial viability and support of operations.

  • Delivery of approved projects​ including daily project management tasks​; managing risk, issue and decision controls​; operational change readiness​; coordination with internal RCS operators on workflow realignment, training and performance impacts​; coordination with external to RCS business partners such as HR and IS to ensure that all facets of the projects are considered​; managing inflight projects to ensure they are on time, on budget and on scope.

  • Creating and monitoring budgets​; providing spend performance reporting​; coordinating measurement of improvement initiatives; supporting revenue cycle in navigating financial matters.

  • Direct adoption of Project Management processes for implementing new functions and technologies into revenue cycle; Set project management standards of performance, ensuring adherence to those standards, and continuously evaluating the effectiveness.

  • Identifies risks and obstacles to projects. Defines scarcity and conflicts of resource needs, and potential constraints. Investigates risks within various organizational elements, assesses impact, and develops contingency plans to address major risks.

  • Prepare financial analyses and other business plans with help of staff; Direct, monitor, coach and evaluate staff for provision of budgeting. long range planning, forecasting, costing, pro forma development, and analytics.

  • with project professionals throughout the organization to ensure projects with revenue cycle deliverables are appropriately prioritized and managed to best meet the strategic intent and timelines.

  • Participate in a wide variety of strategic activities that may have an impact in areas of spend management, performance metrics, and benchmarking.

  • Improve organizational performance though the application of original thinking to existing and emerging methods, processes, products and services. Employ sound judgment in determining how innovations will be deployed to produce return on investment.

  • Facilitate and partner with other functional areas throughout the system to manage revenue cycle implementation activities. Work with pillar and business leaders to commission new projects, evaluate their initial scope and purpose.

  • Maintain flexibility and an eagerness to learn and further development as a valued contributor to the organization.

  • Execute problem identification, data gathering, and implementation of strategic actions that are in the best interest of the ministry, the PSJH mission, vision, and values.

  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

  • Work with appropriate system shared service partners as appropriate and as requested; participate in system financial planning and analytics committees on special assignments.



Required experience and education for this position include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Health Administration; or related area of study

  • 8 years of experience in a multi-hospital integrated delivery network health systems

  • 5 years of supervision of staff

  • 5 years of knowledge base of current technological trends and developments in healthcare

  • 5 years of experience apply financial concepts in a healthcare environment

  • Knowledgeable in functional specification development and management, having the ability to work hands on and to teach and grow others in the knowledge and skills

  • Ability to effectively build relationships with customers, executive management, and other stakeholders through positive interaction and problem identification and resolution

  • Ability to perform work independently with minimal supervision, to lead and grow business and user focused team, growing and hiring the next set of leaders, both managerially and technically

  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and to organize workload to ensure that timeframes are met and the work is successfully completely within deadlines

  • Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations: live, via online or virtual mediums – to be a visible and servant leader within the organization and across revenue cycle

  • Ability to focus on the greater need and mission of the organization, making personal goals and ambitions secondary to the success of the overall division and organization

  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data

  • Ability to analyze information, evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems

  • Ability to analyze information gathered by investigation, and report findings and recommendations

  • Knowledge of financial principles and practices and the ability to apply them effectively

  • Knowledge of project management principles and practices and the ability to apply them effectively.

Preferred experience and education for this position include:
