Providence is calling a Emergency Services Technician (Per diem/Variable shift) to Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, CA.

We are seeking a Emergency Services Technician who will perform basic emergency medical/trauma procedures and patient care as directed. Demonstrates proficiency in delivering care to assigned age specific patient population (e.g., infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, geriatrics), and participates in related continuing education.

In this position you will:

  • Implement and maintain established department, unit, and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives as well as improving organization performance, safety, environmental, and infection control policies. Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee relationships

  • Assist physicians, patients, and families as needed in times of stress or crisis

  • Maintain a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards

  • Perform basic nursing procedures for patients including: thermal applications, non sterile soaks, application of simple dressings, perennial care, stool, and urine collection

  • Perform initial and updated vital signs, pulse oximetry, application of cardiac monitoring, and provide nursing staff with pain assessment and reassessment on patients

  • Clean and prepare rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning

  • Monitor and restock room supplies

  • Open sterile supplies and sets up for and assists with procedures

  • Answer patient call lights and assist patient with their needs

  • Enter orders and arrange for patients' ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services and admissions

  • Photocopy information, files information, answers the telephone, takes messages, and directs calls

  • Ensure accurate maintenance of patients’ medical records and that patient records are treated as confidential information

  • Orient, instruct, and train assigned personnel

  • Requisitions supplies and equipment maintenance and repair services and prepares related forms. Keeps stock and equipment inventories

  • Assist nursing staff with clerical duties related to procedures such as admission, discharge, transfer, and death

  • Perform electrocardiograph examinations with portable equipment in patient rooms

  • Perform splinting patients as directed by the physician

  • Assist with patient flow and room assignments for patients brought in to the department by ambulance personnel

  • Facilitate patient flow in the Emergency Department by bringing patients into the ED after triage and placing them in a patient room based on their chief complaint for physician assessment

  • Assist with life saving interventions during the care of critical patients

  • Accompany and assist nursing personnel with patients who arrive by helicopter

  • Transport patients to testing areas (i.e. X-ray) and patient room

  • Assist RN with transport of critical patients

  • Assist staff with post mortem care

  • Stock medications and supplies in procedural carts, medication rooms, equipment rooms and patient care rooms

  • Participate in educational programs and in-service meetings

  • Attend meetings as required


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Education to meet certification, license or registration requirement

  • BLS for Healthcare Providers sponsored by the American Heart Association. NOTE: If employee/applicant has certification by the American Red Cross, this will be accepted until expiration. At that time, renewal must be sponsored by the American Heart Association.

  • Current LA County EMT 1 certification

  • 1 year Patient care or clinical experience

  • Good oral, written communication skills

  • Good organizational skills
