Providence Clinical Education Specialist (RN) in Burbank, California
Providence is calling a Clinical Education Specialist (RN) (Full-Time/Day Shift) to the Intensive Care Unit at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, CA.
We are seeking a Clinical Education Specialist (RN) who will serve as a consultant, educator, researcher, and clinical expert for the medical center and service area. Demonstrates expertise in the care of age specific patient population (e.g., infants, adolescents, adults, geriatrics, pediatrics) according to clinical specialty, and participate in related continuing education.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, improving organization performance program, and safety standards.
Serve as a resource person and a role model in specialty area. Support and facilitates nursing assessment, care planning, patient/family education, and clinical problem solving for complex or difficult care situations.
Assess staff educational needs; develops and implements programs/learning activities to meet these needs. Monitors outcomes of learning as evidenced by competency assessment.
Develop, organize, conduct, and supervise programs for orientation, training, in service, and continuing education.
Participate with student instructors in planning and evaluating clinical assignments for students in area of specialization.
Act as a resource in area of specialty for orientation preceptors, preceptees, and students. Collaborate with others in the development of brochures and posters to publicize educational programs/learning activities according to organizational guidelines.
Coordinate with outside educators to present courses within the medical center or service area. Recruit employees with specific expertise to present or assist in presenting courses. Models, teaches, and supports others in developing lesson planning and presentation skills, including the use of audiovisual equipment, computers, and other aids.
Schedule classes, according to Providence Health System priorities. Maintain required course documentation including accurate records of personnel attendance/participation in educational programs.
Investigate new products, equipment, and techniques; participate in and/or coordinates clinical trials, in services, and competency assessments; evaluates and makes recommendations to appropriate committees.
Assist leaders in developing competency assessment tools.
Collaborate with other health professionals to design, develop, and evaluate patient educational programs, materials, and related staff protocols.
Consult with individuals and multi disciplinary groups on health care issues, demonstrating effective use of change and systems theory in the process.
Facilitate development, implementation, review, and revision of department, medical center, and service area policies, procedures, and standards of care related to areas of expertise.
Act as a participant, resource, and facilitator for department, specialty area, medical center, and service area performance improvement activities.
Utilize nursing theory and current research to support and improve health care practice. Convey nursing theories and research findings to staff.
Participate in professional organizations and community activities.
Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings, and workshops.
Attend meetings as required, and participates on committees as directed.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Advanced study in area of clinical specialization
Course work in adult education principles.
Training in performance improvement and research methodology
California Licensed Registered Nurse
BLS for Healthcare Providers sponsored by the American Heart Association (NOTE: If employee/applicant has certification by the American Red Cross-CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, this will be accepted until card expiration date).
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) upon hire
Transfers - must be obtained within 180 days of completion of clinical orientation
1 year experience in adult education, patient/family education.
3 years experience in nursing specialty area (ICU/Critical Care).
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Master's Degree in Nursing or current enrollment in Master's Degree Program
