This is an unparalleled opportunity for a Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO). The CPO is responsible for the overall development, coordination, facilitation and administration of all St. Joseph Medical Center fundraising/philanthropy programs. The incumbent sets the strategic direction, and establishes goals and objectives with clear milestones and procedures for achieving high levels of Philanthropy to make a meaningful impact to St. Joseph Medical Center. Along with serving as a key member to the Executive Leadership Team, s/he will ensure that Foundation Fundraising Activities are developed in line with the strategic goals of the organization.
As a key partner to the Chief Executive and the Foundation Board of Director, the CPO leads the St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation, guides and engages the Board of Directors, leads and manages the fundraising team, impacts fundraising on all levels through the development and implementation of a strategic plan, creates the right organizational structure to support philanthropy, focuses the Foundation on support of key organizational priorities and initiatives, and operates as a known and trusted member of the communities served. S/he is also expected to serve as a brand ambassador for St. Joseph Medical Center, helping to drive great confidence in the hospital to various stakeholders in the philanthropic community with a compelling case for support.
In addition, the CPO will serve as the Chief Fundraiser. This will come with the responsibility of securing major gifts along with personally managing a portfolio of major and planned giving donor prospects across the region.
Ideally, the CPO serves as the head of philanthropy for St. Joseph Medical Center. S/he will work in concert with the Regional Chief of Philanthropy for St. Joseph Medical Center and work collaboratively with other Chief Development Officers.

Function as a visionary/strategic thinker in setting the strategic and annual operating plan to achieve the goals of the Foundation.
Cultivate teams to achieve a high degree of success in executing the strategic plan and delivering on results.
Develop and administer the Foundation’s budget relative to its operating and strategic plans.
Construct annual tactical goals, objectives and performance metrics, as well as key performance indicators to track the Foundation’s success.
Create, secure the approval of, and successfully implement effective short and long range strategic philanthropic plans designed to enable the hospital in fulfilling its mission and achieving its strategic objectives through increased philanthropic support.
Plan and implement Capital Campaigns, Comprehensive Campaigns, Endowment Campaigns, Annual Giving Campaigns, Major Gift Solicitations, Fundraising Events and Planned Giving Programs, with effective planning and drive to establish results.
Build and sustain strong relationships with Staff, Board, EMT and Community Members to lead the philanthropic efforts of the Foundation.
Maintain a professional contact with community organizations, other institutions, associations and organizations that affect hospital development programs.
Effectively work together with the Foundation Board of Directors in their responsibilities as the fundraising arm of the hospital.
Develop an effective structure for the Board, ensuring the group will be able to achieve its goals and priorities, consistent with the philanthropy strategic plan.
Assist the Board in the creation and implementation of policies and procedures that will guarantee the utilization of the most effective, economical and ethical methods of fundraising.
Organize the Board for maximum efficiency and ensure that Board Members’ time and talents are well-used to make an optimal philanthropic impact. When needed, recruit new board members.
Develop an effective St. Joseph Hospital Brand ambassador strategy (through the foundation board and beyond) to enable broad and compelling donor and community influencer confidence in the brand and value of St. Joseph Hospital’s support of philanthropy.
Need to be adept at impacting and delivering results with a clearly defined plan for performance in working with potential contributors, including individual donors, corporations, foundations and other grant-making institutions.
Devise and implement strategies to obtain contributions and Major/Planned Gifts from the donor community of varying demographics, including new donors and well-established community members.
Forge strong relationships with a number of fundraising partners including medical staff, administrators, board members, businesses and community leaders.
Academic degree in a related field (Bachelor’s or Master’s in Non-Profit Management, Public Health, Communications, Liberal Arts, etc.)
A minimum of 10 years of experience in Managing and Directing Fund Development Programs.
Active participation in courses relative to Fund Development.
Evidential success in running a Comprehensive Fund Development Organization, including Significant Capital Campaigns, Annual Giving, Planned Giving, Fundraising Events, and Major Gifts/Grants Procurement.
Extensive knowledge of Philanthropy, Major/Planned Gifts, Grant Proposal preparation, as well as Accounting and Statistics.
Strong strategic skills with the capability to develop, articulate and communicate a strategic vision to the Board, staff, community and Medical Center Leadership team.
Knowledge of the operational support for fundraising, including donor research; donor tracking and reporting systems; gift processing; donor stewardship and communication; development of fundraising metrics and fiscal management of a foundation.
Strong management skills in assessing, recruiting, organizing and motivating talent.
An aptitude to effectively utilize performance management metrics in order to inspire staff to perform at high levels.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate to a broad array of stakeholders.
Personal track record of fundraising success that displays an ability to develop a portfolio of major donors, in addition to securing seven figure gifts.
An openness to new ideas and ways of achieving objectives through modes of creative, progressive, and forward-thinking.
Strong collaboration skills in tandem with an ability to see the big picture in realizing goals that serve the larger organization.
Exceptional managerial, planning, and execution skills.
